ENGIE Advances South Africa’s Renewable Energy with Grootspruit Solar Project
ENGIE, a platinum member of the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI), is making remarkable progress in South Africa’s energy transition with the development of the 75 MW Grootspruit solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Free State province.
The project, which began construction in late July, represents a key milestone in the country's shift toward renewable energy solutions.
With 18 rows of solar panels already installed and 500 kilometres of cabling in place, ENGIE is steadily working to harness solar energy that will feed into South Africa's national grid.
This clean energy project is set to power approximately 80,000 South African homes, reducing CO2 emissions by an impressive 100,000 tons annually.
The Grootspruit project is one of two large-scale solar plants currently being developed by ENGIE in South Africa.
In collaboration with Pele Green Energy, ENGIE is also working on the Graspan plant in the Northern Cape, which, like Grootspruit, will contribute 75 MW of renewable energy to the grid upon completion in 2025.
